Journey by design heading in the form of a taveling trunk.

Goals and Purpose

The purpose for this website is to provide a place where young graphic designers can go to learn about different methods of creating good design and even share their own methods with other designers. The site will do so by displaying the work and method of designer Ashley Killpack as has been developed in school, and eventually by displaying the work and methods of other artists.

Audience

The target audience is young graphic designers, or at least designers who are young in the trade. Generally this would encompass students from the age of 15 to about 30, but occasionally outliers will occur. This demographic is youthful, hip, energetic, and very visually oriented. I plan to address this by making my website "pretty," using lots of pictures, and not wasting time with lengthy explainations.

Design Requirements

The layout of all my pages are very similar. I use exclusively sans serif fonts, such as Ariel and Myriad, and all my text is a dark grey as opposed to the traditional black. The header of every page is bright and open feeling, so I tried to let my text reflect this same bright, openness.

The photographs I used in my site are all related specifically to my text. Each one illustrates a principle of the design methods described on my site.

The navigation is clear and consistent, appearing on every page in the same place. The only navigation that changes is in my Usability section, because that has it's own secondary navigation.

Delivery Requirements

My website should display as required on the following browsers:

  • Internet Explorer, v6 or later
  • Safari 2.0
  • AOL 8 or later
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.0x or later

The site should display on the following operating systems:

  • Macintosh OS10.x or later
  • Windows XP Home or Professional

The site will require the following plug-ins:

  • Acrobat Reader 6.0 or above

Content

A home page and several content pages should be included on this site

  • Home page: General information explaining the purpose and mission of the site.
  • Assignments page: Links to various class projects and short descriptions of the project there linked.
  • Research page: Breif explaination of different types of research and a list of internet links which would be beneficial in a graphic designer's research toolbox.
  • Concepting page: Brief explanation and application on the process of developing a concept for design.
  • Presentation page: Description of the necessities involved in developing a professional presentation, whether for a client or for a coworker.
